I finally have my terrarium set up for carns and some of my small ferns. The ferns have been in here for about a month now and really seem to like it.
So I nestled some little carnivorous plants in here too.
They are just babies, so are a little hard to see. The little leggy one that looks like a baby spider plant is an octopus plant. It has been in here about 3 weeks now. It has sticky little traps at the ends of its legs.

This is a cabbage palm fern, and there is a rabbit's foot tucked into the front.... then a very small venus fly trap and a little purple pitcher plant.

Not too exciting yet, but I'll figure out some more things to put in and get it looking like a little garden. The kids love the carnivorous plants and believe they will bite if you try to touch them

Oh that's really cool Nat! It's going to look great as it fills in. Be sure to post pictures in the later stages, I can't wait to see those.

If you put carnivorus plants in there you'll want to set the tank in the sun, as carnivorous plants need high light to survive (I have several pitchers and venus flytraps). I googled octopus plant and the pics don't look anything like whats in your tank.

The tank is set in a spot where it gets direct morning sun, if it seems to need more, I suppose I can rig up a small grow light over it....it may help with showing it off a little too.
I just googled octopus plant and came up with something very different too.... but that was all it was labeled with. You know, how they come in those little plastic boxes? That was it, so that is all I know to call it.
I'd like for them to all do well in there, everytime I buy a VFT, it dies, so it has been a few years since I've tried. I'm open for suggestions.

try googling Carnivorous Octopus Plants. I found all kinds of information. I clicked and read through some of them just to be sure.

Every monday Sash
That has always been my key to keeping my houseplants alive and well. I trained myself to acknowledge every monday as my houseplant morning. Waterings, potting, trimming, and all that stuff happen that morning each week. It became habit after a little while. Now it's just a regular housework chore.
the good thing about the terrarium is that it pretty much regulates itself. Mist with water occasionally, and depending on your bedding and room temps, it will and should keep itself somewhat regulated and happy. My ferns have done better in here VS out already.
You can google plant terrariums and find a lot of neat ideas if you're interested. I find peat moss is very important. The best part? ... No weeding!

My venus flytraps get full sun all day, and they need to be in a container that holds water as they like to be wet. I'll snap a pic of mine when it stops storming.

If you listen real close you can hear the bugs buzz in the pitchers.

I have been for the past hour and I still don't hear them smurf.
Smurf you have some wild looking creatures growing there.
Nat, I love it! So glad you had the time to put it together because it should look so good when it fills in. Your own little jungle.

Wow smurf, those are all really cool! I've never seen them kept that way before...they obviously like it. It may make me rethink them a little bit.... I can layer them into containers with water under them and then hide them down under the moss or something.... hmmmm
I put a little light on them today, its a full spectrum plant bulb. I hope it works well for them. I'd really like them all to do well...so if I'm doing something wrong for the carns, I'd like to know. They can be tricky, for sure.
Aud, you really might like it. This aquarium is a 30 gallon high, if that helps at all. You can put glass tops on to help with the humidity, but I was reading that VFT's need open air.
Here it is set up at night....

That looks awesome Natalie! I had a small 10 gallon terrarium going for quite a few years, but the plants just outgrew it too fast. I was constantly trimming back and pulling out overgrowth. I never tried any cp's in there, but believe it or not african violets, pilea and a few others that you wouldn't think would do good in a moist environment did fantastic. Enjoy it! The ferns will love their new home.

How very cool!Great job! I have a glass jar (gallon)that I've been holding onto to make a small terrarium with my grandkids. The only thing stopping me is finding the right plant(s)to put in the thing.I plan on doing a closed enviroment so they can see how everything works together.

Thanks everyone
Osunshine, your grandkids will love it. My kids love taking care of it with me and like to catch small bugs for the CP's. So far, all is doing very well. everything is growing and looking good.
