Baptisia australis, five years from seed and worth the wait?

I have to admit that the five years waiting for first blooms from my seed grown "False Indigo" may be much more than the average time required for first blooms on this hardy perennial when grown from seeds, but realize with my poor sandy soil and constant tree root problems, that growing conditions may have been far less than ideal for them to bloom much sooner perhaps.  None the less, I was somewhat surprised by the sparseness of the blooms along the stems as well, so they aren't making much of a show for the first year in bloom.  Oh well , but maybe they'll be worth moving , should I decide to take them with me when and if I move in the near future.  Meanwhile as a comparison in the density of blooms , there's a white lupin right next to those with all those lovely dense blooms packed along the bloom stems!  the plants still seem a little small as well, having expected some much more vigorous and much taller plants, and they're less than two feet tall with the bloom stalks!  I see one site that lists the possible height of more mature plants at up to 5-6 ft. , so  mine are small indeed.  More growth to come of course, but--------!  Sorry about the lack of photos still!

Save seeds from the lupine because the plants do not like to be moved.  I made that mistake and still have yet to replace my plants.  Really miss them because they are such striking spikes.

I have a yellow Baptisia that took forever to bloom but only 3 years, i think.  5 years is really being patient!!  Sorry the flowers weren't so spectacular but I wouldn't give up on it because it could surprise you.   They say Baptisia don't like to be moved either but I've moved several around without any problems.  I bought a white one this spring so I wonder how long I'll have to wait for it to bloom?

Wish I could see your gardens Mr. S. But like you I can`t post any of my pretties either. This computer is just not stable enough to handle the downloading of my Kodak Easy Share software, then the pictures on top of that. Hey we`ll get it together one of these days how bout it!!??

I have yet to find out if it's possible my flash drive got corrupted from the corrupted software in my photo software, or if that's what's causing the computer not to download any new photos once edited for size etc. right to my flash drive, so I could share them on this library computer , with mine still being offline.  I'd even tried downloading new photos right from my camera to this computer, but the library computers aren't formated to do that I guess, so it didn't work.  Oh well, but perhaps some day soon, I'll be back on line at home without all the viruses and bugs I now have on my home computer .  Durned things!

Maybe next year you will get a full blooming on it. I wish I had moved my batisia before my phlox swallowed it whole.

Ooh, Baptisia Beast Swallows Phlox Whole!  Now that headline ought to bring in new readers!  Sorry you lost it Bethie.  I was just wondering about Baptisia when I saw it at a sale.  It was in bloom but not stunning.  How long do they bloom?  I am going to concentrate on long long bloomers!  Is it common to take so long to bloom?
