Does anyone grow this herb? I've tried to find seeds, but I end up only finding the oils. No luck at all finding seeds

We have starfruit, but a seed pod and a big fruit should be hard to confuse LOL. I have 2 starfruits started from seed.

i am not sure the seeds sold as spices are still viable???

i saw these when i was in asia but never occured to me they could be germinated... They looked to me TOO dry or even a little baked.

but i could be wrong...

I want the seeds because I like the way the pods grow, anyone know a company that sells fresh seed?

you can order seeds online and on amazon.com, I know we all like to save money by swapping but if no one has them it might be your best bet. My guess is, some kind of asian market has them as well. But I wouldn't know if the seeds they sell for culinary purposes are baked or toasted or something of the sort.

Hmmm I looked on ebay, nothing but oils. I'll check on amazon.

Amazon has these, but I emailed the seller about them and was told they are not meant for growing.

You have to use seeds from the tree.

in 2006 and found a supplier at that time. *It is apparently a large

I don't think those are seeds though.  I think it's only the spice they're selling which wouldn't be viable.  But not sure.

The crushed seeds is the spice, Penny I think all anise seeds come from the plant itself. I just don't know if spice pods are treated so that they won't grow or not.

What I meant, Smurfboy, was that you (apparently) cannot use the dry pods, only the fresh ones from the tree.

The information came from forums online, where I learned that
the plant grows very slowly and takes a very long time to fruit.

Quote :  The star anise seeds are apparently what are called 'recalcitrant', which means that will likely never germinate if allowed to dry out significantly. I have tried several times unsuccessfully to get the seeds from pods I bought in bulk at the market to grow.

You'll need to find someone selling plants or fresh pods, not dried.

Good luck. End of Quotation.

No, they're not, Smurf.  They're not crushed, just dried. They're sold whole as a spice. We sold them at the health food store.

Well you can't use them without crushing them, that would be hard to swallow. Are they of any nutritional value?

you can you need to remove them at the end before serving is all.
