| I was looking through a catalog and they advertise Dutch Iris and Dwarf Iris for sale. Does anyone know the difference and if so...what is the difference? |

| Dwarf iris [reticulata - blue, purple] [danfordiae - yellow] flower in the early spring and are quite short in height, whereas the Dutch Iris flower late spring-summer and are quite a bit taller and come in lots of lovely colours. |

| I think the Dutch irises have something more like a regular bulb , whereas the reticulatas have a rhizome, and there are also "dwarf" bearded irises , which have rhizomes just like the standard bearded irises. |

| Iris reticulata or Rock garden Iris as grindle said are early flowering (Early April) and are only 4" tall. They do have a regular bulb, I planted 100 of them last fall! They are really pretty and I believe were the earliest flowers I had blooming here this spring.
Dutch Iris bloom in the early summer and are 18" to 22" tall. They're supposed to be a good cut flower. |
